Capabilities

Every feature,
engineered for Mac

Dynamic Island on macOS isn't a port from iOS. Each capability was rethought for the desktop — bigger screens, keyboard and trackpad input, and all-day usage patterns.

Animation Engine

Fluid Transitions

Every state change uses custom spring-physics built on Core Animation and Metal. At 120Hz ProMotion, the island expands, contracts, and morphs with a natural, organic quality that never feels mechanical.

The island expands, contracts, and morphs with perfect timing. Whether you're receiving a notification, starting a timer, or scrubbing through a song, the motion is calibrated to feel inevitable.

The engineering team spent months tuning spring constants and damping ratios so that interactions feel delightful after hundreds of daily uses — not just the first time.
Instead of banners competing for screen real estate, Dynamic Island surfaces only what matters right now. Rich notifications appear with media previews, quick reply fields, and actionable buttons.

Expand any alert with a click or swipe for full context, then collapse it back when done. The Notification Center becomes optional, not essential.

Swipe Gestures

Four intuitive gesture directions map to the four most common actions — dismiss, expand, reply, control. Operable directly from full-screen without breaking focus.

Customizable HUDs

Heads-up displays that you design. Choose which information surfaces, how it's styled, and under what conditions it appears. No two setups look the same.

Custom layouts Conditional rules Style editor
The HUD editor gives you a visual canvas to place information modules: CPU gauges, network speeds, calendar countdowns, stock tickers, custom text. Each module has positioning, sizing, and visibility rules.

The result is a dashboard that reflects your specific workflow — not a generic template.
The menu bar becomes a glanceable dashboard: current weather, next calendar event, battery percentage, active timer, current track — all visible without a single click.

On the lock screen, the same widgets greet you when you return to your Mac, so you're already oriented before you type your password.
Always-On Layer

Lock Screen Widgets

Persistent widgets in both the menu bar and lock screen surface key data at a glance — weather, calendar, battery, music — before you even unlock.
