Yes. The app is fully native and runs on both Apple Silicon (M1–M4) and Intel Macs. macOS Sonoma (14) or Sequoia (15) is required for the full feature set.
macOS 14 Sonoma and macOS 15 Sequoia are fully supported with all features. macOS 13 Ventura has limited support — some Live Activities and gesture features require Sonoma or later.
No. The island works on all supported MacBook models, including those without a notch. On notch-equipped models (MacBook Pro 2021 and later, MacBook Air M2+), the island integrates seamlessly into the physical notch area. On older models, it appears in the center of the top menu bar area.
Yes. The settings panel lets you control which apps are allowed to display in the island, priority thresholds, and how long each notification stays visible before auto-collapsing.
Extensively. Twelve built-in themes, plus a full custom theme editor for colors, blur intensity, border opacity, and icon styles. Animation spring tension and damping are also adjustable for users who prefer snappier or slower transitions.
Yes — many users run both. It's recommended to add the island to Bartender's exclusion list so it remains pinned to the center notch area and isn't hidden or reorganized.
Under 0.3% CPU and approximately 14 MB of RAM during typical use. When the island is in its dormant state, the rendering layer is suspended entirely, dropping to near-zero overhead.
The impact on battery is negligible. Because the app uses Metal GPU rendering and is written in Swift with careful energy-efficiency practices, the typical daily battery drain is under 0.5% compared to not running it.
Completely. All processing happens locally on your device. Notification content is never sent to external servers. The app has no internet access requirements for core functionality.
